Midland residents are set to experience closer to normal temperatures this week following a period of below-average temperatures caused by an Arctic blast.

The National Weather Service (NWS) reported that a cold front moved through West Texas on Saturday night, resulting in temperatures on Sunday and Monday being five to ten degrees Fahrenheit below normal. "However, highs should return to near-normal by Tuesday afternoon," the organization said.

According to the NWS forecast, Sunday will see a high of 51 degrees and a low of 32, with wind gusts reaching up to 10 miles per hour in the afternoon. Monday is predicted to be partly sunny with a high near 47 and a low of 39. Tuesday will see a high of 56 with a low of 50 and a 40 percent chance of showers at night. The high temperatures will rise to 62 on Wednesday with a low of 43, with showers likely after midnight. Thursday is expected to be sunny with a high near 55 and a low of 38, while Friday's high will reach approximately 60 with a low of 41.

Earlier this month, the NWS reported in a Facebook post that the Midland International Air & Space Port recorded below-normal rainfall totals for the year, amounting to 11.81 inches in 2024. San Angelo and Lubbock experienced what was described as a "wet" year, receiving 19.33 inches and 22.31 inches respectively, while Albuquerque saw only 6.96 inches and El Paso received just 4.73 inches.
