The unemployment rate in Midland, Texas, is currently the lowest in the state, as indicated by a recent report from the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC).

According to TWC, Midland recorded an unemployment rate of 2.4% in December 2024. Other cities with unemployment rates below 3% include Abilene at 2.9%, Amarillo at 2.6%, and the College Station-Bryan metro area at 2.7%. In contrast, Odessa reported an unemployment rate of 3.3%. The McAllen-Edinburg-Mission metro area in the Rio Grande Valley had the highest unemployment rate in Texas at 6.2%.

Overall, the state's unemployment rate stands at 4.2%, according to a TWC news release. December marked the twelfth consecutive month of job growth in Texas, with 39,900 individuals securing employment. Throughout the year, Texas' civilian labor force expanded by 445,300 people.

"This new record-high level for jobs and the civilian labor force shows the strength of Texas’ economy," said TWC Chairman Bryan Daniel. "TWC will continue its efforts for continued economic growth by connecting job seekers with employers and providing job training for Texans."
