Midland Independent School District (MISD) has announced the implementation of a professional development measure for teachers aimed at enhancing educational outcomes for students.
According to a news release, the district has partnered with Teach Like A Champion (TLAC), an organization that focuses on training, lesson preparation, classroom observation, and student work analysis. This partnership aims to assist teachers in narrowing teaching gaps and optimizing classroom management practices. The initiative is expected to improve student outcomes through strategic measures that will lead to better grades across all campuses within the district.
"TLAC's strategies ensure that instructional priorities are aligned with the needs of every learner," said Erin Bueno, chief academic officer. "This collaboration directly supports our school improvement efforts by bringing consistency and intentionality to teaching and learning."
Bueno further explained that a team of content coordinators is leading instructional frameworks and Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS)-aligned assessments following the restructuring of the Teaching and Learning Department for the 2024-25 school year. "An integrated approach to developing professional learning and establishing instructional expectations is the standard for how the district operates," she added. MISD hopes this initiative will help achieve its goal of increasing the percentage of students attending A/B-rated campuses from 14% to 31% in one year.
