The City of Midland has initiated the operation of four cold weather warming centers in response to nighttime temperatures dropping significantly below freezing.
According to a January 6 post on Facebook, these centers are located at Breaking Bread Kitchen, 410 E. Florida Ave.; the Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Center, 2300 Butternut Ln.; Salvation Army of Midland, 600 E. Wall St.; and Midland Soup Kitchen Ministry, 1401 Orchard Ln.
A news release from the city indicates that the National Weather Service (NWS) is forecasting low temperatures in the 20s this week. The organization says high temperatures will range from the lower 40s to the lower 30s on Wednesday.
The NWS added that West Texas, including Midland, will experience light snow on Wednesday ahead of a larger storm expected from Thursday into Friday. The city plans to update its list of warming centers as more information becomes available.
