Winter temperatures in West Texas have been warmer than usual, but the National Weather Service (NWS) anticipates a change next week with the arrival of an arctic cold front.

According to the NWS, "An Arctic airmass is expected to overspread west Texas and southeast New Mexico by next week, bringing more winter-like temperatures to the region." The agency added that there is "still a lot of uncertainty," with a much clearer forecast expected in the coming days as a wintry mix is possible.

The NWS is urging residents to plan ahead for next week's cold. For the next few days, residents can expect near-normal temperatures. Warmer temperatures, with no precipitation, are expected this weekend.

The agency emphasizes that it still isn't sure when the arctic air will arrive next week and how cold it will get. A clearer picture of how long the cold air will linger in the area is expected to emerge soon.
