Midland to ring in New Year with cool weather

Midland is expected to experience warm weather at the start of the week, with residents advised to prepare for a strong cold front as New Year's Eve approaches, closing out 2024.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Midland, "Above-normal temperatures are expected through Monday! Unfortunately, a cold front will intrude upon the region Monday night, bringing temperatures down to around normal Tuesday. #txwx #nmwx," they wrote on X. Sunday will see a high of 75 degrees Fahrenheit and a low of 53 for tonight.

The NWS forecasts indicate that Monday will have a high of 77 degrees Fahrenheit and a low of 40, with wind gusts reaching up to 25 miles per hour in the afternoon. Tuesday is predicted to be sunny with a high near 57 and a low of 34. New Year’s Day will see a high of 56 with a low of 35. The cool temperatures are expected to rise slightly on Thursday with a high near 65 and a low of 35, while Friday's high will reach approximately 58 with a low of 39.

The NWS has released its latest three-month outlook, which supports meteorologists' expectations for months: December through February will be warmer and drier than average. Precipitation during these months is also anticipated to be below normal for West and South Texas.
