Development of Midland Independent School District's (MISD) new elementary school is progressing as planned, with the opening scheduled for the next academic year.

"Lone Star Trails Elementary is making significant progress. Concrete has been poured for the second floor and stairs, and the construction of the theater stage is underway. #MISDBond2023," MISD said in a Facebook post.

According to information from the December MISD Board of Trustees meeting, 28 percent of the school construction is complete. Key milestones include ongoing installation of stud walls in classroom areas, second-floor decking installation, and drywall sheathing beginning on the north side of the campus. Additionally, masonry walls in the kitchen are finished, steel erection is 60 percent complete, and metal stair framing has been delivered to the site.

"When I say I'm so stoked, it doesn't even reach the level of excitement I have," Principal Morgan Robertson wrote on Facebook. "Seeing our brand new campus go up is awesome to watch! We can't wait to see our armadillos, parents and staff fill the halls."
