The Midland Police Department (MPD) is mourning the loss of a North Texas law enforcement officer who was killed in the line of duty.
According to MPD, Terrell Police officer Jacob Candanoza, 28, died on the night of December 8 while conducting a traffic stop. The Terrell Police Department (TPD) said in a Facebook post that Candanoza was shot and succumbed to his injuries after being transported to the hospital.
MPD paid tribute to Candanoza, who joined the force over the summer and was about to celebrate his birthday on December 14.
"Our heartfelt thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, and colleagues during this difficult time," the post said.
Candanoza’s obituary said that funeral services will be held at Lakepoint Church in Rockwall on December 17. Donations to the memorial fund established for Candanoza's wife and daughter can be made here.
Candanoza is the second police officer to be killed in the line of duty in the past two weeks. MPD extended its condolences to the Greenville Police Department late last month for Officer Cooper Dawson.
