MPD investigates deadly car accident

The Midland Police Department (MPD) is investigating a car accident that resulted in the death of a pedestrian. 

According to a December 9 Facebook by MPD, the incident occurred on the night of December 7 at around 10:40 p.m. at the intersection of Lamesa Road and Wall Street.

MPD officers reported that a man driving a 2007 GMC pickup was traveling north in the outside lane of the 100 block of South Lamesa Road.  

"When he approached the intersection, he observed a male subject in the center of the lane of travel," the post said, citing a police report. "(The driver) attempted to avoid the subject but was unable to and struck (the pedestrian) with the front right side of the vehicle."

The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. Their identity remains unknown as police are attempting to contact next of kin. The accident is currently under investigation.
