The Midland Police Department (MPD) has issued a warning to holiday shoppers, advising them to secure their vehicles while shopping to avoid becoming victims of break-ins.
According to the Permian Basin law enforcement agency, a Facebook post dated December 5 urged the public to #LockItOrLoseIt. In this post, MPD instructs the public to lock their vehicles and remove valuables. "Don’t make it easy for Grinches to steal your Christmas cheer," the post reads.
The National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB) states that parking lots during the holiday season attract thieves and other criminals.
Last month, MPD noted that with the increase in online shopping activity, there is also a heightened risk of package theft. Authorities urge the public to ensure their deliveries are safe and secure to prevent any unwanted surprises. Police have provided tips to prevent package thefts.
