Midland County is set to commence renovations on a building it acquired for use as a morgue.

Last year, the county opted to utilize this facility as a morgue instead of continuing to contract services from Ector County. According to a state filing with a regulatory agency, the $1.1 million project is being overseen by Midland County’s Director of Facilities, Eddie Melendez.

The renovation will involve refurbishing the existing 14,343 square foot space and installing a new elevator. The work on the facility, located at 509 North Loraine Street, is scheduled to begin on February 25, 2025, and conclude by November 25, 2025, according to the filing.

The local design firm Vandergriff Group Architects, P.C., collaborated with the county on the architectural elements of the project. Google indicates that the facility previously housed the New Direction Ministry before its acquisition by the county.
