The holiday season in Midland is a time for family traditions and local events. Despite the convenience of online shopping, many residents still prefer purchasing items in-store or buying gift cards from local businesses.

"Shopping locally is the best way to locate unique gifts for your friends and family," said Lourcey Sams, Midland Development Corporation Board Chair. "When you buy the perfect present from a Midland store, the funds support jobs and growth in our community. Many of our stores have deals during Small Business Saturday and throughout December. Buying from entrepreneurs and local franchise owners helps support local businesses through the rest of the year and into 2025."

Small Business Saturday on November 30 offers an opportunity to explore new and familiar businesses in Midland. Shopping locally allows customers to avoid shipping deadlines, simplifies returns, and provides personalized service from shop owners who are often part of the community.

Midland hosts several holiday events that encourage shopping locally. On December 3, Centennial Park's Tree Lighting Ceremony will feature a market with food trucks, live music, and photos with Santa. Betenbough Homes' 21st Annual Cowboy Christmas takes place on December 5 at 6718 N TX-349, offering free photos with Santa and activity bags for children. The Merry Lighted Christmas Parade occurs on December 14 along A Street.

Shopping locally benefits Midland's economy by keeping profits within the community, creating jobs, supporting suppliers, paying taxes that fund infrastructure improvements, fostering entrepreneurship, and attracting new residents.

Supporting local businesses is encouraged year-round as it contributes to their growth beyond just the holiday season.
