Learning by Design Magazine, a publication focused on the design of educational projects, has recognized Midland College’s Pre-K Academy and Center for Teaching Excellence as a 2024 Outstanding Project.

The design firm Parkhill worked on the project. The firm said that the building incorporates shapes, colors, numbers, and letters into areas outside of the classroom to promote continued learning. Furthermore, aspiring teachers have the opportunity to observe master teachers interacting with pre-kindergarten students.

According to Learning by Design Magazine, Midland Independent School District utilizes the ground floor of the building as a free Pre-K program aimed at serving underserved students. The second floor serves as the operations base for Midland College's Center for Teaching Excellence program.

The magazine reports that the facility can accommodate 663 students and cost $30.5 million to construct. The building is situated on a 7.2-acre site and opened in August 2023.
