The Midland Police Department (MPD) has addressed concerns from residents regarding door-to-door solicitors, providing guidance on how to interact with them.

According to an October 29 Facebook post by the Permian Basin law enforcement agency, residents are not required to open their doors to solicitors, particularly after dark. The post states that authorized solicitors must be registered with the city of Midland and have completed background checks.

The MPD has established specific hours for solicitation activities. From November 1 to April 1, solicitors may visit residences between 10 a.m. and 7:30 p.m., while from April 2 to October 31, they can operate from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., according to the post.

Residents are advised to look for a city-issued photo badge when approached by solicitors. If any solicitors are observed working outside of these designated hours, police should be notified.

The department encourages anyone who feels uneasy or suspicious about solicitors to contact MPD immediately at (432) 685-7110. The calls are recorded and used in determining whether a company's solicitation privileges should be revoked.
