A leading specialty battery franchise, Batteries Plus, has announced plans to open a new location in Midland, Texas.

According to a news release, the company has signed a franchise agreement that will bring five new stores to West Texas, expanding its footprint in the state. The Hartland, Wisconsin-based company supplies batteries for various uses including cars, boats, phones, and key fobs and operates over 800 store locations nationwide.

Liz and Jay McKee are set to be the franchise operators of these new stores. Jay McKee has spent 40 years in the oil and gas industry across California, New Mexico, and Texas with roles in sales as well as extraction and production. Liz McKee also brings 30 years of experience in sales. The first location is expected to open in Odessa.

"We could not be more excited to be joining the Batteries Plus family," said Liz McKee. "Odessa is a metropolis that just continues to grow and there is nothing like Batteries Plus in our community, so there is a tremendous opportunity to be able to fill a void for our neighbors when it comes to battery needs and phone repair. We are looking forward to opening our doors and serving the community."

Following the opening of the Odessa location by spring 2025, additional stores are anticipated in Midland, Lubbock, Abilene, and Big Spring.

"Adding hard-working entrepreneurs like Liz and Jay to the Batteries Plus team is extremely exciting for us and we look forward to continuing to expand our presence across the state of Texas," said Joe Malmuth, chief development officer. "We already have a strong presence in East Texas, so being able to enter the West Texas market is a nice milestone for Batteries Plus as we continue to be a leader in the industry."
