The Midland Police Department (MPD) has issued a warning to residents about a phone scam involving callers who impersonate officials from the Permian Basin law enforcement agency.

According to an October 23 Facebook post by MPD, the callers claim to discuss "confidential legal matters." Recipients are instructed to return calls to numbers, including those with an 843 area code.

MPD advises anyone suspecting a scam call to contact them at (432) 685-7108. Earlier this month, authorities alerted the public about similar scams involving individuals posing as municipal court representatives and attempting to sell Medicare or Medicaid services.

Recently, the Midland County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) also warned of a similar phone scam where callers impersonate law enforcement officers and demand money. This is the second warning from MCSO this year concerning such fraudulent activities.
