The Midland City Council held a regular meeting on Oct. 22 to address resolutions impacting the community.
The Council deferred a resolution to award a food and beverage concession contract to O'Mulligan's 19th Hole for management services at Hogan Park Golf Course. Councilman Dufford explained that the deferral allows for a thorough evaluation of the potential for a three-year contract, particularly in light of the planned improvements at the park in the coming years. O’Mulligan’s has operated concessions at the golf course for approximately twenty years.
Transitioning to infrastructure, the Council approved a resolution awarding a contract for the Landfill Access Road Project to Reece Albert, Inc. This significant project is budgeted at $3,664,036.08, with an additional $732,807 set aside for contingencies. The resolution highlighted the urgent need to address the deteriorating condition of the current access road, which spans approximately one mile.
In another key initiative, the Council authorized the acceptance of a donation from PBEX, LLC, to bolster the Midland Police Department's SWAT team. Valued at $5,000, this donation includes a range of tactical equipment such as folding bolt cutters, sledgehammers, pry bars, breaching saw blades, a cordless angle grinder, and lithium-ion battery packs. The donation aims to enhance the department's operational capabilities.
Shifting focus to community development, the Council granted an appeal by Prince Signs, LLC, which reversed the Building Official's denial of a sign permit for Lot 1D, Block 1, Pavilion Park, Section 14. This site is located at the northeast corner of the intersection of North Big Spring Street and Pavilion Parkway.
The next city council meeting will be held on Nov. 12.
