Midland Independent School District (MISD) is highlighting the benefits of a Texas-based leadership institute aimed at developing leaders within the district.

According to a MISD news release, the district's first cohort of leadership training with The Holdsworth Center is concluding. Principals and administrators from four campuses participated in this two-year program, which aims to enhance leadership skills and improve school performance and student outcomes through 12 sessions. Participants learned from leaders across various sectors and visited participating campuses.

"This work has helped shape and accelerate our leadership development plan," said Superintendent Dr. Stephanie Howard. "With one of our pillars of the strategic plan being to grow and develop staff, this work is directly in line with our strategic plan and the focus on developing a strong leadership pipeline that prepares current and future campus leaders to lead their campuses with excellence."

The Holdsworth Center's objective is to strengthen campus leadership through a hands-on, problem-solving approach, according to the news release. Permian Strategic Partnership and the Scharbauer Foundation have supported MISD’s involvement with the program, allowing participants to receive in-depth coaching, root cause analysis, and strategies for dynamic leadership. Additionally, workshops were held in Odessa instead of Austin.

"Refining my leadership skills through the Holdsworth program has helped us accelerate instruction and increase student outcomes," said Henderson Elementary Principal Maxine Gonzales. "This program has exceeded my expectations in every way, providing world-class training that is tailored to the needs of our specific campus."
