Midland helps state continue job growth streak

Recently published data from the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) shows that the city of Midland thrived in terms of labor and unemployment for the month of August.

The city said in a September 29 Facebook post that its civilian labor force rose by 2.2% in August compared to the same month last year. The Tall City recorded 117,900 jobs, an increase from 115,300 more than a year ago.

In a September 24 Facebook post, the city shared that it registered the lowest unemployment rate in Texas for August. Midland’s present unemployment rate stands at 2.8%, besting Amarillo and Odessa. It was 2.7% during the same month a year ago.

According to a September 20 press release attributed to the TWC, the state continues to see a surge in job growth as seasonally adjusted civilian labor force achieved a new record-high of 15,398,400 after adding 44,800 people over the month in August. Texas added 277,900 people to its civilian labor force in a year’s span, the release said.
