The Midland Independent School District (ISD) School Board received an update on current developments related to the 2023 school bond at a recent meeting.

According to a news release, the district’s new elementary school, which is currently under construction, is still scheduled to be finished by the start of the next school year and is 10-12% complete. An overview of the budget concerning the construction and a schematic design phase of the new high schools was also presented.

Artist renderings of new elementary schools and middle schools were also discussed. The news release said that front entrances, reconfigured to include secured vestibules, for Goddard Junior High and the current Midland Freshman High School were also presented. The construction timeline for these schools still calls for them to be finished by August 2026.

Midland Freshman High School is 50-60% complete with much of the site and infrastructure already done. A security package related to elementary schools calls for security cameras, which the district expects to have in place by March 2026. The board also announced a design firm for the renovations of Bush Elementary, De Zavala Elementary, Santa Rita Elementary, and Scharbauer Elementary. Over the next two weeks, the district will host design tours and meetings at these campuses related to their makeovers.
