Members of the Midland Police Department’s (MPD) Honor Guard participated in the First Responder Appreciation event at the Dallas Cowboys home game against the New Orleans Saints at AT&T Stadium in Arlington on September 15.
According to MPD, they were among different agencies and departments honored by the National Football League (NFL) franchise famously known as America’s Team.
The Permian Basin law enforcement agency thanked the Cowboys for celebrating first responders in a September 16 Facebook post. The post featured images from the event. MPD officers took the field during the national anthem as part of the ceremony before kickoff.
Just a few days prior, the nation commemorated the 23rd anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks, a day which saw heavy involvement in rescue and recovery efforts from first responders.
The Cowboys lost to the Saints, 44-19, going 1-1 on the young season. Dallas quarterback Dak Prescott, who recently signed a record-breaking $240 million contract extension with the team that took him with the 135th pick of the fourth round of the 2016 NFL Draft, finished the afternoon throwing for 293 yards, a touchdown, and a pair of interceptions on 27-for-39 passing.
Next for the Cowboys is a Week 3 home matchup against the Baltimore Ravens, who seek their first victory of the season.
