Midland residents are invited to participate in an effort to clean one of the Permian Basin’s key roadways. The Great Highway 191 Clean Up is scheduled for September 21 from 9 a.m. to noon.

According to a September 13 Facebook post attributed to the Midland city government, the goal of the event is to clean up as much of the state highway between Midland and Odessa.

Event organizers hope to give State Highway 191 a fresh look just in time for the Special Olympics Texas Fall Classic, which will take place next month, according to the post.

"This event is about more than beautifying our cities; it’s a reflection of our shared commitment to community and creating an environment where everyone feels welcome," Mayor Lori Blong said in the post.

Interested individuals are encouraged to sign up by visiting https://shorturl.at/A0hzD. Dumpsters will be provided on the north side of SH-191 at Billy Hext on the Odessa side.

There will be another dumpster under the bridge at County Road (CR) 1275 and 191. These locations are also intended to be meeting places.
