A local elementary school celebrated the bond between grandparents and grandchildren, according to a post on X by Midland Independent School District (MISD).

"Grandparents Day is this Sunday and Emerson Elementary celebrated the special holiday today at lunch. #MISDProud #MadeinMisd @EmersonMISD," said MISD.

This year, Grandparents Day, also known as National Grandparents' Day, fell on September 8, according to Grandparentsday.org. The theme of this year’s holiday was "Grand Minds: Learn, Love, Legacy," which aimed to highlight the role grandparents play in shaping youth through mentorship and other dynamics.

According to the organization, September 8 through 14 was designated as Grandparents Week. The holiday was first celebrated in Poland in 1965. In America, Grandparents' Day falls on the first Sunday of September following Labor Day.

"On National Grandparents Day, we celebrate the contributions of grandparents across the country, whose love is the glue of so many families," President Joe Biden said in a news release. "Today, may we reflect on our greatest memories with our grandparents and express our gratitude for the lasting impact they have made on each one of us and the very soul of our nation."
