The Midland Police Department (MPD) is mourning another Texas law enforcement officer killed in the line of duty.
Just a week after MPD offered its condolences to the Dallas Police Department (DPD), the Permian Basin law enforcement agency finds itself commiserating with Harris County Constable Precinct 4.
Harris County Constable Precinct 4 Corporal Maher Husseini was fatally shot on his way to work the day after Labor Day. MPD posted a tribute to the late Husseini, his place of work, and his family on Facebook on September 4.
"Midland Police Department extends our deepest condolences to the Harris County Constable Precinct 4 and the family of the deputy who lost his life," the post read. "Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time."
According to a September 5 Facebook post by Husseini’s boss, Harris County Precinct 4 Constable Mark Herman, hundreds of law enforcement officers paid their respects to the fallen deputy at Masjid Alsalem Mosque in the Houston area.
In late August, MPD sympathized with DPD when the latter lost officer Darron Burks as he responded to a call.
The Texas Police Trainers website stated that at least four law enforcement officers were killed in the line of duty during the current year. A little more than 2,200 officers and 30 K-9 officers have been killed in the line of duty in the state of Texas.
