The Midland Police Department (MPD) joined a fellow Texas law enforcement agency in mourning the loss of a police officer. Dallas Police Department (DPD) officer Darron Burks was killed on the night of August 29.

According to an August 30 Facebook post by MPD, they sympathized with DPD and Burks’s friends and loved ones, deeming the officer’s passing "a tragic loss."

"We stand with you in the mourning of one of your own and are praying for the recovery of the wounded officers," the post said.

According to a DPD Twitter post announcing Burks’s death, a few officers were injured in the same incident.

The Texas Police Trainers website stated that at least four law enforcement officers were killed in the line of duty during the current year.

A little more than 2,200 officers and 30 K-9 officers have been killed in the line of duty in the state of Texas.
