The Midland Police Department (MPD) has advised citizens to be wary of an alleged scam in which an individual is impersonating an officer.

According to an August 27 Facebook post by the Permian Basin law enforcement agency, it has fielded reports about someone calling residents claiming to be Lt. Jason Lee.

The post stated that the number (432) 217-0451 would appear on caller IDs, and the caller would say there’s a warrant for "Failure to Appear for Jury Duty."

While the scammer didn’t request money, according to the post, MPD is warning citizens to be vigilant.

Anyone who receives such a call is suggested to hang up and notify police.

According to a June 12 Facebook post by MPD, the department does not call the public regarding warrants or payments.
