The Midland Police Department (MPD) reported that the city experienced its lowest number of crashes in four years last month. According to the Permian Basin law enforcement agency, there were 183 crashes in July, figures not seen since January 2021.
An August 22 Facebook post by MPD stated that the reduction is part of what it describes as "a promising trend."
Authorities revealed the following in the post: the two lowest two-month totals since March 2021, a 20% decrease compared to July 2023, a pace this calendar year that is 11% lower than through 2023, and a pace that is the lowest since 2021.
July’s 183 crashes marked the first time under 200 in a month, with 198 occurring in January 2022.
The 180 reported in January 2021 was lower than last month’s number.
