The Midland Humane Coalition (MHC) celebrated the grand opening of its new animal rescue center on August 17. Bearing the names of Joe and Van Mabee, the facility is intended to help MHC operate and look out for the community.
According to MHC, a video of the ribbon-cutting ceremony was shared on its Facebook page.
It expressed how happy it was for the Joe and Van Mabee Animal Rescue Center, as well as "thanked [everyone] who supports our mission."
Permian Basin NBC KWES News reported that the doors to the building were barely open when visitors were already entering to seek animals under MHC’s care to adopt.
MHC Executive Director E.J. Terrazas told KWES that the center was a culmination of what he described as a "six-month journey" for MHC to look for a new place.
Terrazas added that his organization now has 120 kennels and a dedicated isolation unit, which it didn’t have before when it took up residency at a local PetSmart.
According to Permian Basin CBS affiliate KOSA News, the Joe and Van Mabee Animal Rescue Center is located along Highway 80 eastbound between Midland and Odessa.
