The Midland City Council approved the purchase of a cart refuse truck for $425,896 to replace renting a truck for more than $11,000 a month. The council approved the purchase at its July 23 meeting.

According to the Midland City Council's July 23 agenda, the Solid Waste Department sought approval to purchase the automated cart truck from Bond Equipment Company Inc. through the Buyboard purchasing cooperative. Bond Equipment Company can deliver the truck 10 days after the purchase.

Director of Solid Waste Jeffery Ahrlett said in an interoffice memo that trucks are in production, but their delivery is not expected until the first or second quarter of 2025. He said buying this truck would save money.

Councilmember Jack Ladd made the motion to approve the purchase with Councilmember Amy Stretcher Burkes seconding it, according to the Midland City Council's July 23 agenda.
