New Midland actor: A two minute scene ‘took us like nine hours to do’

Aschten Aguilar, who has a role in Landman, said that filming a scene took nine hours and around 40 takes due to the cold weather, despite the scene being set in the West Texas heat. Aguilar was a guest on a recent episode of the Best of Midland Podcast.

"We're at a man camp, essentially," said Aguilar on a recent edition of the Best of Midland Podcast. "Everybody has their cues to where they need to be, and they have like three cameras set up. Everybody has their own DP or whatever it is, and we just start filming at 8:00 sharp. When I say we did that take probably like 40 times throughout that day, it took us one, four, eight, nine-hour day to do that scene.”

“They cut it short,” Aguilar said. “The scene is probably going to be like two minutes, and it took us like nine hours to do it.  It was freezing; it's supposed to be set in the West Texas heat. It was really cool because I caught glimpses of the monitors, kind of like where the cameras are feeding to, and I already had Luts on it and the color scheme kind of set. It looked legit, like West Texas; so everybody’s doing their best not to shiver on camera.

Aguila will be on Taylor Sheridan’s upcoming show, Landman, which stars Billy Bob Thornton, Jon Hamm, and Demi Moore. He has a background in the oil fields and a passion for music.
