MCSO charges couple with child abandonment after finding autistic five-year-old alone

The Midland County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) is investigating an alleged child abandonment case after finding a lone toddler with autism on July 25. Sheriff’s deputies discovered the child in the 2100 block of SCR 1140 in Midland County.

According to a July 26 Facebook post by the Permian Basin law enforcement agency, an investigation revealed that the child has autism.

Authorities subsequently contacted the child’s parents, identified as Amanda Wilson and Nathaniel Spellings, and performed an inspection of the couple’s residence.

Permian Basin CBS affiliate KOSA News reported that MCSO found the home to be unsanitary.

Child Protective Services (CPS) is involved with the investigation, according to KOSA News.

According to the post, Wilson, aged 30, and Spellings, aged 32, were charged with abandoning or endangering a child and booked into the Midland County Central Detention Center.
