Midland High School running back Elijah McCoy could have the opportunity to set the tone for a newly established football program. McCoy announced on X that he has received an offer from the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) to play football.
"After a great conversation with @CoachRegalado I'm blessed to receive a division 1 offer from @UTRGVFootball. @Coach_Fortune @CoachCam36 @TFloss32," said McCoy.
In 2022, the University of Texas System Board of Regents approved the establishment of a football program at UTRGV, along with women’s swimming and diving programs. The Vaqueros, the moniker of the school, are set to play their first football season in 2025.

These areas are coming together to provide a better university experience for our students and our entire campus community."
