Midland Fire Chief Charles Blumenauer has taken on a new role and introduced a new companion. Midland Animal Services (MAS) spotlighted the new Managing Director of Public Safety and his canine friend.

"There’s a common assumption fire departments have dalmatians, but Tramp, Blumenauer’s dog, isn’t one," said MAS in a June 21 Facebook post.

According to the post, Blumenauer and Tramp have experienced significant life-changing moments since the former adopted the latter.

Citing a press release from the city, Midland Times reported that in his new position, Blumenauer continues his managerial role while developing others in the fire department senior ranks. The publication added that he will manage the city’s safety operations, including fire services, Animal Services, Health Department, and emergency services.

The release reported that Michael Tully will step into the role of fire chief on an interim basis.

MAS offered its congratulations to Blumenauer and Tramp. The agency operates from its location at 1200 N. Fairgrounds Rd., with operational hours from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday; and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday.
