The Midland City Council will allocate up to $500,000 for its citywide school flasher project. The bid was approved at its June 11 meeting.

Willis Electric Co. of Abilene, Texas, was the sole bidder and was awarded the contract, according to the agenda packet for the June 11 Midland City Council meeting. City Traffic Engineer Taha Sakrani said the staff was confident in the contractor's performance history.

According to the agenda packet, the Traffic Operation Division initiated a citywide project to maintain and replace existing school flashers and install new ones. It also includes the maintenance and installation of pedestrian crossings.

Willis Electric will be assigned individual tasks, with payment for each task based on the quantities used and the unit prices approved in the contract, according to the agenda packet. The contract will enable the city to swiftly respond to maintenance and installation issues with school flashers, a boon to pedestrian safety.
