This summer marks the return of the Midland Police Department (MPD) Kids Academy. Slated to run from June 10-14, the academy is currently seeking young participants.

According to a June 5 press release issued by the city of Midland, the classes are free for children in first through sixth grades and will be held at the MLK Community Center at 2300 Butternut Lane from 8 a.m. to noon.

The academy's objective is to build a strong relationship with the youth and the community, according to the release.

Only 40 spots are available, so new applicants will be considered on a first-come, first-served basis, the release said. Should there be any open spots remaining, those who have been through the class before may be considered.

Interested individuals can download an application at https://www.midlandtexas.gov/DocumentCenter/View/8777 and email it to jrodriguez@midlandtexas.gov upon completion.

The deadline to apply is Friday, June 7, 2024.
