Midland College has announced that two of its Dual Credit Health Science instructors were recently selected as Honor Teachers by two Top 10 Legacy High School students. Each top graduate was given the opportunity to select a standout teacher who left a lasting impression on their life and helped them achieve academic success.

The two Midland College instructors chosen for this award are Isabel Flores, Assistant Professor of Dual Credit Health Sciences, and Ray Garcia, Department Chair and Dual Credit Health Sciences Instructor.

Flores was nominated by Ariana Blackwell, who wrote: “Ms. Flores has been one of my strongest supporters over the last two years as I have attained new milestones in my professional career. She has guided me every step of the way, even through moments of sadness and joy, and has helped me build the foundation for my future in healthcare. As one of my greatest role models, Ms. Flores has taught me courage, compassion, kindness, and strength, all of which I strive to master and carry with me throughout life.”

Garcia was nominated by Emma Lutsevich, who wrote: “Mr. Garcia is an incredible person and teacher, and I’m so blessed to have had him for two years of my school career. From the times in jeopardy to the tears in memorizing endless meds, Mr. Garcia was there guiding us to become successful in learning the ins and outs of the medical field and simple life lessons (like not to speed on the road!). I’ll be forever impacted by the memories from my family in pharmacy along with knowing ‘pc’ – meaning after meals not before meals!”

These nominations highlight the significant impact these instructors have on their students' lives. To acknowledge their individual excellence and elevate the noble profession of education as a whole, both instructors were honored at the LHS graduation ceremony with a monetary gift and certificate from the Midland Education Foundation.

“We are very proud of our Top Ten students, and humbled that out of all of the teachers in their 12-year education, they selected two from our Midland College team,” said Wendy Wood, Midland College Dean of Health Sciences Dual Credit and Continuing Education. “Isabel and Ray are very dedicated and caring to their students as they prepare them for industry certification exams, future college health studies, and a career in healthcare.”
