As summer approaches and temperatures are expected to rise, Midland Animal Services (MAS) has issued guidelines for residents on how to care for their pets. Melissa Griffin-Hobson, the Manager of MAS, has enumerated seven essential tips for pet owners.
According to a Facebook post by MAS on May 22, the primary advice is that hydration is crucial. This essentially implies that pet owners should ensure their pets have access to a sufficient amount of water to prevent dehydration.
Furthermore, MAS recommends smart walking practices for dog owners. Similar to humans, dogs also have a threshold temperature beyond which they cannot tolerate heat. Therefore, it's advisable to take walks during parts of the day when the heat is more bearable, such as early in the morning.
In addition to this, MAS encourages pet owners to provide shade and shelter for their pets, invest in cooling products, and ensure proper grooming of their pets. The organization also emphasizes the importance of not leaving pets in parked vehicles and being vigilant for signs of heat stroke in them.
MAS operates from its location at 1200 N. Fairgrounds Rd., with operational hours from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday; and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday.
