Legacy High School senior Mariah Iacovone has achieved first place at the Texas Campus Crime Stoppers Conference for her artwork. The winning piece, created using colored pencils, encapsulates various elements such as police officers, the Crime Stoppers app, and a West Texas sunset. As a result of this victory, Mariah's artwork will be exhibited at the Texas Crime Stoppers office located in the State Capitol in Austin.

This is not the first time Mariah's artwork has been recognized. It previously secured first place in the Midland Crime Stoppers art contest last spring before being submitted to the state conference. The win came with a $400 cash prize which Mariah used to purchase a state-of-the-art camera to enhance her artistic endeavors.

Despite being legally blind in one eye, Mariah continues to create award-winning art. She has never allowed her condition to deter her from chasing her dreams.

Currently part of the Health Sciences pathway offered through MISD’s Career and Technical Education program of study, Mariah intends to attend Midland College in the fall. She plans on transferring to a university thereafter where she aims to study pre-med with aspirations of becoming an anesthesiologist. Given her recent accomplishments in art, she also plans on studying art.

"I was thrilled and honestly surprised when I found out that my artwork had been selected," expressed Mariah. "Art has always been my passion, and I'm excited about what's next."

Mariah was acknowledged by the Midland Crime Stoppers at its monthly meeting.
