The Midland ISD Police Department is utilizing social media to raise awareness that April is Child Abuse Prevention Month (CAPM), as revealed in a recent post.

The Texas Department of Family and Protective Services has stated that the objective of CAPM is to stimulate conversations about child abuse prevention within communities. To aid this, the department is providing a toolkit that includes information on child abuse prevention practices, CAPM resources, and sample CAPM imagery for sharing on social media platforms.

"April is Child Abuse Prevention Month, and MISD Police Chief Scott McKown is teaming up with the Midland Rape Crisis and Children's Advocacy Center, Midland County Sheriff's Office, and Midland Police to help educate families about abuse and how to prevent it. #EngageandAct," was posted by Midland ISD on their social media platform.

Annabelle Aguilar, marketing and event coordinator for the Children's Advocacy Center, told NewsWest 9 about their advocacy efforts. She said, "Because this month is so important because it’s child abuse prevention month, and part of prevention is education and awareness. So, we try to teach people what we offer, the services we offer and the education we provide in the schools and we also try to raise awareness so that people understand that this is an issue that’s prevalent in our community."

Midland Legacy High School also participated in raising awareness for CAPM. They recently posted on their social media platform: "April is Child Abuse Awareness Month. Members of LHS’s Origin performed the National Anthem for this evening’s Blue the Basin event at the Museum of the Southwest. These kids are Excellence in Action! #rebelnation #EmpoweringforExcellence."
