Born on April 21, 1956, David Jerome Porter, a Texan politician and accountant, served on the Texas Railroad Commission from 2011 to 2017. Formerly a Midland CPA, he relocated to Giddings post-retirement. Raised in Fort Lewis, Washington, Porter graduated in 1977 from Harding University in Arkansas. A CPA since 1981, he moved to Midland that same year, dedicating his practice to oil-related services. Active in Midland's civic life, he served on the Hospital District Board from 1989-1991. Engaged in Republican politics, he won the 2010 primary, securing victory in the general election. His tenure saw initiatives like the Texas Natural Gas Initiative. Named "Man of the Year" and recognized for economic policies, Porter's influence extended beyond Midland. Colleagues included Christi Craddick of Austin and Ryan Sitton of Friendswood on the Railroad Commission. As of 2021, Porter retained a stake in a Texas oil & gas company.
