The city is set to construct a new entryway for the Midland Police and Communications Building due to deteriorating conditions. The total cost of the project has been estimated at $150,000.

"The concrete steps, landing, and ADA ramp are deteriorating due to age and weather-related conditions," said Regina Stephenson, General Services Director, in a memo addressed to Deputy City Manager Morris Williams, according to the Midland City Council agenda for its April 23 meeting.

According to the same agenda, the Buyboard contract cost for the concrete entry replacement project stands at $142,705 with Tommy Klein Construction. Additionally, staff have requested a contingency amount of $7,295.

The contractor's plan includes demolishing the existing stairs, walkways, landings, ramp and drain surrounds as per the council's agenda. Following this demolition phase, a new front entry will be constructed. The pouring of concrete will be done in phases starting with the ramp followed by work on the stairs. This approach ensures that access to the building remains uninterrupted throughout construction.

As members of both the Buyboard cooperative and in accordance with Texas Local Government Code provisions, Midland's procurement process for goods and services complies with state law requiring competitive bids. This was also confirmed during the Midland City Council meeting held on April 23.
