Midland has plans to purchase two automated refuse trucks for its Solid Waste Department from Chastang Enterprises, with the expenditure amounting to $863,370. The necessary funds are available in the Garage Fund operating budget.

Solid Waste Director Jeffery Ahrlett emphasized the importance of these trucks in a memo to the city's purchasing manager. "Automated cart trucks are a vital piece of equipment for the Solid Waste Department. These trucks service the quickly growing residential curbside collection areas," said Ahrlett, according to the agenda for the Midland City Council's April 23 meeting. He further noted that "The purchase of these trucks will replace other vehicles that are now beyond their serviceable life."

According to the same council meeting agenda, it was revealed that the city had initially budgeted $718,000 for these two trucks. However, through a contract with Chastang Autocar under the Buy board agreement, the cost has risen to $863,370.

The agenda also provided details about the capacity of these new trucks. According to this source, each truck can accommodate up to 28 cubic yards.
