The Midland City Council has granted a contract to Willis Electric Co., based in Abilene, Texas. The deal, worth $622,177, is for a two-intersection traffic signal project.

According to the council's agenda packet for its April 9 meeting, the project will be executed at the intersections of Lamesa and Gist Avenue and at Mockingbird and Magellan/Stonebridge.

The same document reveals that a contingency of $62,217 was included in the project budget. Willis Electric was the only company to bid on this project.

City Traffic Engineer Taha Sakrani stated in a memorandum to the city purchasing manager: "Willis Electric Co. has an established history in the City of Midland and has performed to the City’s satisfaction throughout the course of previous traffic signal projects." This statement was also part of the council's agenda packet for its April 9 meeting.
