Bridges wins gold for the Bulldogs at Lubbock Invitational

The Lubbock Invitational track and field meet took place last weekend, and the Midland boys’ team placed sixth while the girls’ team placed seventh.

Boys’ highlights:

The Midland Bulldogs had 36 points to take sixth place in the meet, which was won by Frenship with 174.5 points. 

Stroman Bridges won the gold medal for the Midland Bulldogs in the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 39.82. Joey Almanza had an excellent day running distance, finding the podium twice. He won the silver in the 3200 meters with a time of 10:07.05, and also took bronze with a time of 4:34.47. Blaine Hamilton came away with a bronze medal in the shot put with a toss of 47 feet, 6 inches. 

100 meters: Tristan Love had a time of 11.64, earning him 18th place in the preliminaries.

200 meters: Love also ran the 200 meters with a time of 23.76, good for 17th in the preliminaries.

800 meters: Austin Streiff was ninth with a time of 2:10.03.

1600: Streiff was 11th with a time of 4:57.36.

3200: Jose Zubia was 19th with a time of 12:53.83.

110 meter hurdles: Noah Crumpler placed fifth with a time of 15.46. Bridges was 12th in the preliminaries with a time of 16.41.

Discus: Hamilton was fifth with a toss of 151 feet, nine inches. Tahj Harris took seventh with a throw of 148 feet, eight inches. Gus Varela was 13th with a throw of 126 feet, one inch.

High Jump: Love was 14th with a leap of five feet.

Pole Vault: Cage Peugh was fifth with a height of 12 feet, six inches. Landon Richardson was 14th with a height of 11 feet. Haylen Day was 16th with a height of eight feet.

Triple Jump: Athen Dominguez was seventh with a distance of 40 feet, six inches.

Girls’ team:

Midland placed seventh with 22 points in the girls’ meet, which Frenship also won with a score of 192. Alani Alexander led the girls’ team as the only one to hit the podium, taking the bronze medal in the triple jump with a distance of 34 feet, 8.5 inches.

100 meters: Aliyah Alexander was 15th with a time of 13.04 in the preliminaries. Natalie Tillis placed 19th with a time of 13.34. Alyssa Orosco was 31st with a time of 13.83.

200 meters: Villafranco Serenity was 35th in the preliminaries with a time of 30.59.

400 meters: Natalie Tillis was 14th in the preliminaries with a time of 1:04.46.

3200 meters: Celine Maldanado was 18th with a time of 13:23.68.

100 meter hurdles: Aubrey Gray was fourth with a time of 15.94.

300 meter hurdles: Aubrey Fray was seventh with a time of 49.04.

Shot put: Carolyn Bautista was 14th in the preliminaries with a time of 30 feet, 8.25 inches. Stephanie Guerrero was 24th with a time of 25 feet, 3.25 inches.

Discus: Stephanie Guerrero was 13th in the preliminaries with a toss of 91 feet, 10 inches.

Pole vault: Abigail Donnelly was 12th in the preliminaries with a height of seven feet, six inches.

Long jump: Stephanie Olmos was 16th with a distance of 14 feet, 1.5 inches.

Triple jump: Olmos was 12th with a distance of 30 feet, two inches.
