The city of Midland has decided to purchase eight refuse trucks and three roll-off trucks from Summit Truck Group, with a total cost of $2.7 million. The acquisition will be made through a Sourcewell cooperative contract.
During the Midland City Council's meeting on March 19, staff recommended the purchase of eight Kann refuse truck bodies on International cab and chassis, along with three roll-off trucks. This recommendation was part of an agenda item that received unanimous approval.
The funds for this purchase will be sourced from the Garage Operating Fund budget, as revealed in the same council meeting. The city of Midland is a member of the Sourcewell cooperative, which allows it to participate in a cooperative purchasing program. This participation fulfills the state's Local Government Code requirement for competitive bids.
According to information provided at the council meeting, these new refuse and roll-off trucks will replace vehicles in the city's fleet that have exceeded their serviceable life. The eight refuse trucks are priced at $2.4 million while the roll-off trucks will cost $585,000.
