Midland Legacy Coach Eric Garcia recently picked up his 200th win on the baseball diamond, when they beat the Montwood Rams in their final game of the Soccoro ISD Tournament on Feb. 24
The Midland Legacy Rebels beat the Montwood Rams 10-4, led by Aiden Serrano’s three hit and two RBI effort to fuel the high powered offense.
Midland Legacy went up 3-0 in the second inning, but the Rams put a two spot on the board to come within one in the top of the third. In the bottom half of the inning, the Rebels went off for four runs to make it a 7-2 game. Montwood cut the lead to three with a two run fifth, but Midland Legacy added a run in the bottom of the fifth and two more in the sixth inning to run away with the win.
Serrano went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and a run to lead the Rebels in a 12 hit attack. Cole Neatherlin had three hits including a double, and also scored three runs and stole a base in the win. Trajan Chavez went 1-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and a run scored.
Jaden Rogers went 1-for-1 with two RBIs, a walk and a run. Caiden Olivas was 2-for-4 with a double, a run and an RBI. Drew Martin also knocked in a run, while going 1-for-3 with a double. Andres Cordero also knocked in a run and went 1-for-2 with a steal, while Rey Rey Ruiz also had an RBI on a sacrifice fly.
The win put them at 3-2-1 in the three day tournament. The following week, between Feb. 29 and March 2, Midland Legacy took part in the 50th Annual Tournament of Champions where they went 2-4.
In the Tournament of Champions they started off with a 6-0 loss to eventual tournament champion Grapevine on Feb. 29. They followed with a 3-0 loss to EP Eastwood and a 5-2 loss to Weatherford, both on March 1. The Rebels finished out the tournament strong with a 7-4 win over Abilene High and a 7-2 win over Andrews.
Next up is the Scotland Yard Classic from March 7 to 9 at Highland Park. District play starts on March 21 when the Rebels host Frenship at 6 p.m.
