Lady Bulldogs place second at Todd Martin Ranger Relays

The Midland girls’ track team was the runner up in the Greenwood Todd Martin Ranger Relays with 88 points, tied with Lubbock Coronado. Midland Legacy took the top spot with 198 points.

Freshman Kaylee Smith won the 1600 meters with a personal record time of 5:34.84. Smith also won as bronze in the 800 meters with a time of 2:27.42.

Aubrey Gray took gold in the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 49.17. Gray won silver in the 100 meter hurdles with a personal record time of 15.76, as well.

Alani Alexander won the triple jump, posting a personal record distance of 34 feet, six inches.

The 4x400 meter relay team won with a time of 4:10.56. The team includes Natalie Tillis, Stephanie Olmos, Villafranco Serenity and Gray. The JV team also won the gold with a time of 4:31.81. The team included Alyssa Garcia, Madelyn Aleman, Aubrey Lujan and Adedayo Adeyemo.

Alani Alexander had a personal record time of 26.68 in the 200 meter preliminary round. The senior went on to place fourth with a time of 26.85.

In the 400 meters, Olmos set a school record with a time of 1:02.84, placing sixth.

Also setting a school record was Abigail Donelly with a leap of eight feet for fifth place.

Coach Kirk Thurman was happy with the performance of his varsity winners and those who made personal records. 

He also noted that on the JV level, Astrid Acosta did well in the hurdles. She had a personal record time of 18.12 for second in the 100 meter hurdles, and won the preliminaries. In the 300 meter hurdles she was third with a time of 53.43.

“The team performance, I thought was very good." said Thurman. "We still have a lot of work to do. Team goals are to get better every day.”

The Bulldogs will compete in the West Texas Relays at Ratliff Stadium in Odessa on March 8 at 10 a.m.
