The Midland Legacy track and field team competed at the Don Black Relays at Frenship on Feb. 23 and 24, with Aaralyn Strambler walking away with a couple of gold medals to lead the Rebels.
Cade Decker also had a big day setting a personal record and winning gold in the discus, and also taking home a silver medal in the shot put.

Girls track and field medal winners:
Midland Legacy took second place in the meet with 116.5 points, behind Frenship's score of 216.
In the 100 meters, Strambler took the gold with a time of 12.31. Strambler also placed first in the long jump with a distance of 18 feet, 1.5 inches. Bolaji Subair won gold in the discus with a toss of 161 feet, 6 inches. She also took bronze in the shot put with a throw of 37 feet, 6.5 inches.
Pamela Ouattara won the shot put with a throw of 39 feet, 6.5 inches.
The 4x100 meter relay team was second with a time of 49.19. The team includes Aliyah Valdez, Cayzli Wilson, Tarayah Hubert, Aaralyn Strambler.
In the 200 meter dash, Iyana Smith was third with a time of 26.16. Abigail Hinojosa won the bronze in the 1600 meter run with a time of 5:18.50. Victoria Salazar was third in the pole vault with a height of 9 feet. The 4x200 meter relay team took third with a time of 1:44.87. The team includes Aliyah Valdez, Jenna Gray, Jaelynn Norman, Iyana Smith.
Boys track and field medal winners:
Midland Legacy placed fourth with 74 points. Frenship won the meet, followed by Lubbock Cooper in second and Midland in third.
"The team competed very well," said Coach Christopher Langehennig. "We are entering a new workout phase and the kids are handling it well. They are trusting the process and the times are getting better."
In the 400 meter dash, Logan Meade took 1st with a time of 49.41, which was a personal record. Alexis Chavez won the long jump with a leap of 21 feet, 0.25 inches. Cade Decker won the discus with a personal record toss of 159 feet, 7 inches. Decker also placed second in the shot put with a throw of 50 feet, 2.5 inches.
Masseye Diop won the silver medal in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 15.59.
Caden Ellis broke the school record and won bronze in the 100 meter dash with a time of 10.65.
Coach Langehennig is impressed with the way his team has been performing in the early stages of the season.
"Athletes like Logan Meade (49.41 in the 400), Masseye Diop in the 110 hurdles, Nic Moore in the 300 hurdles, Jayden Holmes-Lopez in both hurdles, Cesar Gutierrez and Caiden Chavez in the 400, Ayden Granado in the 200, our relay teams of Harlem Brown, Ayden Granado, Alexis Chavez, Christian Imperial, Caden Ellis...they all are running PRs and putting in the work," Langehennig said. "Our distance kids are running well, our thrower Cade Decker is throwing PRs in the discus. I'm proud of where we are as a team and only see them getting better as we shift into the next phase."
