After a quarter-century of service, the sound system at Astsound Broadband Stadium is set to be replaced. This move comes in response to grievances from spectators and referees regarding sound levels. The Midland City Council has approved a purchase cost of $720,205, which includes a 10% contingency.
According to the agenda for the Midland City Council's Feb. 13 meeting, the city has ratified a contract with Nouveau Technology Services. This agreement encompasses the equipment, installation, shipping, and training. The staff had recommended employing the interlocal purchasing system to ensure that the new sound equipment could be installed in time for the fall 2024 season.
The forthcoming system will feature speakers aimed at different sections of the bleachers, as stated in the agenda for the Midland City Council's Feb. 13 meeting. This arrangement will facilitate consistent sound throughout the stadium, eliminating instances of overpowering noise in the north endzone and inadequate sound in the south endzone.
According to information provided at the Midland City Council's Feb. 13 meeting, funds are available for this project within Scharbauer Sports Complex Fund's unappropriated fund balance. These funds will be transferred to an appropriate line item dedicated to this project.
