The Midland RockHounds are joining the baseball community in commemorating Jackie Robinson Day on April 15. This date marks the anniversary of Robinson's historic Major League Baseball (MLB) debut with the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1947, when he became the first Black major league baseball player of the modern era.

A Facebook post from the RockHounds, a Double-A Minor League Baseball (MiLB) affiliate of the soon-to-be Las Vegas Athletics, includes an image of a baseball and the league’s logo for Jackie Robinson Day. "Join us and the entire Minor League Baseball family in celebrating the life and legacy of a true trailblazer," said the RockHounds in their post.

According to Major League Baseball's website, Jackie Robinson Day is designed to honor Robinson’s significant impact on the sport. Every MLB player and coaching staff member will don Robinson’s No. 42 jersey, which has been retired across the league, during Tuesday’s games.

Robinson was born on January 31, 1919, in Cairo, Georgia. As an infielder, he enjoyed a decade-long career and married Rachel Isum in 1946; together they had three children. The inaugural Jackie Robinson Day took place in 2014.

The RockHounds are set to commence their series against the Corpus Christi Hooks at Momentum Bank Ballpark on April 15 at 6:30 p.m.
